RCPI Heritage Centre Lectures: Dublin 19th Century City of Medicine

RCPI’s Heritage Centre lectures will look at Dublin as a centre for medicine in the 19th century. Prof Larry Geary, National University of Ireland, Cork, will speak on medical and social philanthropy in improving the life of the poor. Dr Brendan Kelly, Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the Mater Hospital, will talk on forensic psychiatry in nineteenth century Ireland. Dr Laura Kelly, Centre for the History of Medicine in Ireland, UCD, will present on the role of RCPI and the Irish medical schools in admitting women to medical education.

The lectures will be followed by the RCPI History of Medicine Research Award, where four shortlisted researchers will present their resent research on various aspects of the history of medicine in Ireland.
