Futures and Pasts: archaeological science on Irish road schemes is the title of the National Roads Authority National Archaeology Seminar 2012. This free public seminar represents the NRA’s contribution to the Dublin City of Science 2012 Public Engagement Programme and to National Heritage Week. Nine 20-minute papers, specifically catered for a non-specialist audience, will be presented on the use of various methods of scientific analysis and new technologies used to investigate archaeological discoveries on road schemes. The topics covered will include geophysical survey, LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and GIS (Geographical Information Systems), 3D laser scanning and printing, artefact conservation, osteoarchaeology, isotope analysis, radiocarbon dating, optically stimulated luminescence dating, dendrochronology, environmental archaeology and geoarchaeology.
