A celebration of the transformative power of technology, this selection of short films explores how technology has been shaped by some of the greatest inventors throughout the ages. Curated under the theme of technology and discovery, this 70 minute programme features the film Higgs, Into the Heart of Imagination by Jann and Hannie van den Bergh.
At CERN, a physics lab underneath the border between France and Switzerland, the biggest research project in history, the Large Hadron Collider [LHC], is under construction. The LHC, at 17 miles long, is the most powerful particle accelerator ever. Higgs takes us inside the LHC on a quest for the Higgs particle. Sometimes refered to as “The God Particle”, this is the missing link in particle physics. Filmed over the course of four years, the filmmakers Jann van den Berg and Hannie van den Bergh take us on an amazing cinematic journey into the heart of imagination.
Jann van den Berg studied fundamental theology, socio-political philosophy, and theatre direction. Later, he became an explorer of an unusual and exceptional kind: the expeditions he undertakes are not so much to actual places around the world, but rather to the boundaries of the naked eye and intellect.
Hannie van den Bergh studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Accademia di Belle Arti Milano, under Luciano Fabro, art director for Studio HB, award winning graphics and multimedia agency. Hannie Van den Bergh combines her experience as both a visual artist and a graphic designer to initiate installation and video art projects.
