Belle Moral - A Natural History by Ann-Marie Macdonald, a rehearsed reading directed by Maureen White and Ronan Phelan, is an intriguing dark comedy set in a Scottish manor house by the sea at the end of the nineteenth century.
After her father’s death, Pearl MacIsaac is pursuing her scientific studies inspired by Darwin’s theories of evolution. A family secret is unearthed and everywhere there is the pull of opposites science vs nature, rational vs supernatural, conscious and unconscious. Belle Moral attempts to reconcile the extremes of rationalism and romanticism and questions the morality of the science of eugenics, which will be discussed by a panel following the event.
