Take a tour into Ireland’s past to understand our climate and predict our future.

The trip involves a bus tour (starting at Nassau Street in central Dublin) and will visit the northern edge of the Wicklow Mountains. There will be a demonstration of peat coring and an explanation of how the landscape has come to look the way it does, the forests of the last 10,000 years and their clearance and what the future may hold. The large glacial features in the region’s landscape including glacial corries, huge glacial lake basins and other geomorphological features will also be explored

The tour is suited to people aged 15 and over who are able to walk over boggy and rocky ground. Participation is limited and bookings can only be taken from parties of 2 or 3. A donation (about €10 per person) will be accepted to cover the cost of the bus hire. Participants will be sent details of lunch options and a simple risk assessment form. Strong ankle supporting (and waterproof) footwear is essential as is warm and waterproof clothing.

Further details and a booking form are available from Pete Coxon at [email protected] (or 01 8961213).
