Dublin City University, School of Chemical Sciences in conjunction with The Dublin City of Science 2012 and The Royal Society of Chemistry are hosting All-Ireland Crystal Growing Competition 2012. The competition has been aimed at students in their 1st/2nd year of Secondary School ( Category I) and 4th year Transition Yr/5th year students (Category II). Note: similar student profiles for Northern Ireland/A-level Schools

In February, flyers were posted to over 900 Secondary Level Schools across the whole of Ireland inviting schools to participate. Over 200 schools across the country responded and received a Competition Pack to facilitate the growing of crystals.

Many of these schools have now submitted their Best Crystal to DCU for consideration by the judging panel and the assessment is now complete. The schools in the winning categories and the highly commended, have been notified and invited to attend the Awards Ceremony at DCU on 22nd of May .
