This lecture from Enda Leaney presents a neglected aspect of Dublin’s cultural history, i.e. the popularisation of science among the general public during the Victorian era. Dubliners became, in the words of one observer, ‘all agog for science’ through highly extravagant exhibitions, scientific displays, and public lectures. For Dubliners, a weekend trip to a museum or lecture-hall became a mark of and index of civilisation and sophistication.
Booking essential at the so email [email protected] for a place.
