What is genetic medicine and what are the potential benefits and challenges of genetic medicine to society?
As part of Dublin City of Science 2012, the Irish Society of Human Genetics (ISHG) is hosting this public event where both individuals / families affected by genetic disease, and clinicians / researchers will be invited to present their perspective on how the field of genetics will impact on our health and well-being in the future.
Individuals and members of families affected by genetic illnesses such as cardiac disorders, breast cancer and autism will speak of their experiences. National experts will explain and discuss current genetics research, technological advances and ethical issues. Leading international pioneer in genetics, Prof. Han Brunner, will give his perspective on the future of genetic medicine.
The event will conclude with a 30 min Q&A between the speakers panel and the audience. Details of the programme are provided below.
