‘Health Benefits of Improved Air Quality’ is a free public lecture by Professor Doug Dockery of the Harvard School of Public Health.

Professor Dockery is internationally known for his innovative work in understanding the relationship between air pollution and respiratory and cardiovascular disease and its role in mortality and morbidity. He was one of the principal investigators of the landmark US Six Cities Study of Air Pollution and Health, which showed that people living in communities with higher levels of fine particulate air pollution had shorter life expectancies. Prof. Dockery is currently evaluating the benefits of improved air quality on people’s health, including in Ireland: he is collaborating with the Dublin Institute of Technology and Dublin City Council on the EPA-funded STRIVE project, Evaluation of the Effect of Solid Fuel Burning on Ambient Air Quality in Ireland. The project will increase the evidence base to inform better public policy.
