Translating Science in to Medicine

What happens when someone’s kidneys stop functioning? How common is diabetes? Should we be worried about MRSA? How do we detect cancer cells? What happens when our immune system is compromised?
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are inviting you to visit them in their a state-of –the art facility at St. Vincent’sUniversityHospital. This is where they carry out a range of different tests that are critical in the diagnosis of disease. Using cutting-edge scientific and technical developments scientists have a central role in delivering the results of these “blood tests”.
They will run an open day where groups of 3-4 people are guided through the facility by staff visiting each department where tests are done. Each tour will last approximately 40 minutes giving you an insight into the science behind medicine!
