Make and Do and Dublin City Of Science present
Run The World
A game of Data.
A game of You.
Have you ever recorded what you eat, how far you ran, how well you slept?
What if recording this information led you to learn more about yourself and others?
What if you could use this data to participate in a game?
To celebrate Dublin City Of Science and it’s impact over 2012, Make and Do present RUN THE WORLD, a uniquely created game which asks participants to become amateur scientists in their city to unlock rewards by collecting their own data.
We are asking people to reconnect with science experiments from school, revisit naff seventies science programmes on tv and take the concept of citizen science to a new level. It’s been an incredible year for Science in Dublin and we want it to end with a celebration of the scientist in all of us.
Taking cues from the growing Quantified Self “self-knowledge through numbers” movement, the global obsession with data collection and the sciences of taxonomy and ethnography.
Participants will be asked to sign up online, choose a category and begin tracking daily activities like eating habits, alcohol consumption, or travel, for example. In return, they will receive real world rewards of mini performances, stories, and quirky science events to attend as the weeks progress. The intensity of the rewards increase depending on their commitment to the game. (We don’t want to give them all away just yet!!).
Responding to the growing international craze for new, interesting and exciting games that bridge on and offline worlds, Run the World is the first event of it’s kind in Ireland. Games like RUN THE WORLD ask the players to interact with their city using real people, real places, and in real time. We believe that reality has the best graphics.

Who are Make and Do?
We develop unique cross platform projects using the urban landscape as our playground.
Our work sits at the intersection of live art and games. We work with a talented mix of performers, makers, designers, technologists and facilitators.
Since we began in 2010, we have produced PlayFair, Ireland’s first pervasive games festival and continue to collaborate with festivals, arts organisations, educational institutions and the general public to produce work.
Make and Do love what games do to people.
We love to see people have fun and break the rules of “normal” conduct.
We love to see people think laterally and interact.
We love outside the box thinking and we want to stimulate outside the box play.
The DUBLIN CITY OF SCIENCE 2012 festival is a year long celebration that will bring together a community of cultural institutions, organisations and individuals who are passionate about showcasing the best of Irish culture, arts and science.
The new and innovative programme of science themed events across Dublin consists of photographic and art exhibitions, several theatre pieces, film festivals, tours, trails and treasure hunts, science buskers, large-scale interactive installations, experiments, public talks, debates and workshops.
