Awakening Curiosity
23 June – 6 August 2012

Awakening Curiosity is an interactive art exhibition for children and families, with a playful twist of science. Specially commissioned in celebration of Dublin City of Science 2012 by The Ark, Dublin’s renowned children’s cultural centre, Awakening Curiosity features artworks that have been inspired by biodiversity and the natural world.

Discover everything from floating nests built with materials scavenged from the city, to a suspended shoal of recycled metal fish and a laser animation of a snail trail. The exhibition encourages children to investigate and respond to the world around them, and features an indoor Rooftop Art Garden, where children can work with an artist to bring their ideas to life after visiting the exhibition.

Awakening Curiosity at The Ark will feature a series of special events to celebrate Euroscience Open Forum 2012 through Science in the City. These include special guest artists in the Art Garden (Sat 7 – Sun 15 Jul), Meet the Scientist in Collaboration with UCD Science Centre (Thu 12 Jul – Sun 15 Jul, 3-3.40pm); and Meet Marine Life with Galway Atlantaquaria (Sat 14 Jul 11am-2pm, drop-in event).

The Ark gratefully acknowledges the support of its principal funder the Arts Council, its other annual supporters: the Department of Education & Skills, Dublin City Council, and Temple Bar Cultural Trust; and the “Awakening Curiosity” Project Partners: Dublin City of Science 2012 (Public Engagement Programme); The Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht; Notice Nature; the Environmental Protection Agency; The Department of the Environment, Community & Local Government; The Heritage Council; and LUAS.
