Programme of Events

From February to December of this year, the Irish Film Institute will mark the Dublin City of Science 2012 celebrations with Future Visions, a year-long nationwide secondary schools’ project. The event will take place at the Irish Film Institute, Dublin and at ten other cinemas/arts venues around the country. Capitalising on the fact that the Leaving Certificate English syllabus for 2013 includes the film; Children of Men - a futuristic vision of a world in which humans can no longer procreate but with ultimately a life-affirming ending – Future Visions will offer students the opportunity to engage with some of cinema’s most exciting depictions of the future. An accompanying study guide, with invited contributions from scientific specialists working in Ireland, will facilitate study of the films as well as broader topics such as environmental changes, smart learning and digital and filmmaking technologies.
